The Lead Pour

Finally got a cool foggy day, perfect day for gearing up in lead melting gear.  Happened to find my old college welding gloves in my parents garage – definitely came in handy to feel a bit more protected then in typical garden gloves.  Used an propane burner and a cast iron kettle.  Loaded in the used car weights (only the lead ones), and after about 5-10 minutes spoon the floating junk (clips, non-lead weights, etc), then pour.  Finished all 100 plus pounds of lead in 5 or so pours.   Seems and looks a bit scary, but really wasn’t all that bad.

Trimming roll of fiberglass from glassed side panels

So the warning in the manual that the fiberglass edge of the side panels can cut your finger… heed the warning.  Good a slice in the finger when the plane slipped off the edge.  Gloves from then on.
